A dynamic growing local company is looking for a Proactive Production Manager who can take the lead role in a million pound expansion project improving the through put of product on the various process unity units. This person needs to be very hands on and have good “People skills” as they have a wealth of experienced long serving staff who can contribute to the expansion project. Job Spec: Purpose and Key Responsibilities • Manage operational activities on a contract manufacturing site with 13 process units operating on a 3 shift system, 24 hours a day, 5 days a week. • Identify and manage risk to the business whether this is safety, quality or commercial. • Deliver productivity and quality improvement through: Communication, motivation and skill building across the workforce. Identifying and implementing practical improvements to process equipment, operating methods and/ or production environment. • Ensure the requirements of the VMD license, GMP, FSSC22000, ISO9001 and 14001 are effectively integrated into robust company systems and that all operations comply with these requirements. • Develop new processes from concept to efficient functioning operations. • Ensure site facilities including buildings, services and equipment are maintained, fit for purpose and match the Custom Powders company image. • Provide and effective interface with key customers and suppliers. • Ensure that production development, quality and safety improvements are effectively transferred between the Crewe and Dutch sites. Key Skills: • A skilled man manager able to motivate, train and manage an experienced team to the highest level of performance and continuous improvement. • A manager who is able to efficiently handle multiple projects simultaneously across technical operations, quality and safety improvements. • A manager who is able to effectively draw on internal and external resources. • The ability to identify, understand and achieve process improvements in solids handling plants which are routinely expected to handle a wide range of powders and granules. • Able to manage a small company’s limited resource to meet the demands of a wide ranging customer base. • Able to identify risks to the business and apply timely and effective solutions at all levels. • Able to interpret often complex technical or legislatory information and to distil this into practical process design and/ or documentation which is both accessible and achievable by the Custom Powders team. KPIs: • Routinely plan and implement the operational and maintenance activities within 6 months (with support). • Through appropriate management and motivation achieve a demonstrable improvement across the operations and maintenance team. • Show a measurable and consistent improvement in productivity in unit 12 and one other area in 12 months. • Demonstrate 3 improvements in equipment reliability or quality within 12 months. • Achieve consistent processing with a target of zero batch failures on all operations. • Identify and resolve at least 2 areas presenting risk to the business. • Increase productivity on salt milling from 8t shifts to 10t shifts within 18 months. • Have 2 replacement Shift leaders in place within 12 months. • Through effective solutions to manual handling issues show a demonstrable productivity improvement within 12 months. • Demonstrate progress in your ability to learn and provide appropriate support in areas outside of your initial core role.
